Kuchipudi Kalakshetra, a dance school in North Texas, has been shaping dancers of all ages since 1996.

Our Mission

Focused on promoting cultural awareness about Indian classical dance through the Kuchipudi style, the school has been organizing several performances, productions, and workshops over the years. It is one of the earliest Kuchipudi-only schools in Texas, encouraging children and adults alike from all backgrounds to study the ancient art form. Kuchipudi Kalakshetra strives to impart traditional teachings adapted to current times. The school has come a long way from its modest beginnings, but it also hopes to add many more aspects that encourage its students to learn more about Kuchipudi and understand the traditions of Indian classical dance forms.

Our background

Since its inception, many students have received training at Kuchipudi Kalakshetra under the personal attention of Guru Smt. Padma Sonti. As a well-trained teacher and an experienced dancer, Mrs. Sonti is an inspiration to her students. Individuals receive comprehensive training involving a carefully crafted syllabus and flexible schedules.

Having started with a handful of pupils in a modest apartment in Addison, the school now enjoys a healthy enrollment of over 50 students at three locations in the DFW metroplex. Students start their learning with basic steps and Jathis and move on to learn more complex solo items. All through the learning process, students are given various opportunities to participate on the stage, be it at the school's Annual Day Celebrations or at other local performances. Most students also get to participate in the school's many dance ballet productions.
